
Dr. Slayton Hargraves is a born and raised Alaskan who values serving and connecting with his patients. He found his passion for optometry while attending the University of Alaska Anchorage, receiving his bachelor's degree. Leaving Alaska, he traveled to Pennsylvania, where he completed a graduate program through Salus University. Continuing his academic journey at Pacific University College of Optometry (PUCO) in Forest Grove, Oregon, he earned a doctorate in Optometry graduating with clinical honors and an award in the field of Low Vision.
Dr. Hargraves is deeply committed to giving back to his community. During his time at PUCO, he was on the board of AMIGOS, the local optometry service chapter. In this role, he organized and participated in multiple local and international service trips, providing care to thousands of individuals from underserved communities.
During his years of experience in the field of optometry, Dr. Hargraves has developed his knowledge and skills, allowing him to practice at the highest level. With a particular interest in ocular disease, dry eye disease, and specialty contact lenses, he takes pride in staying up to date with emerging research. Through additional advanced certifications, Dr. Hargraves can perform anterior segment laser procedures and in-office surgical treatments. At Makar Eyecare, he utilizes state-of-the-art technology to deliver comprehensive, patient-centered care. Patients appreciate his calm, deliberate composure and the time he takes to help his patients feel informed and at ease.
Since moving back to Alaska, Dr. Hargraves has enjoyed reconnecting with the great outdoors. Whether he is cross-country skiing, snowboarding, hiking, mountain biking, or fishing, he is always making the most of this beautiful state.
