Dr. Katia Guzman

Dr. Katia Guzman is an optometric physician dedicated to providing thorough, compassionate eye care to patients of all ages. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Dallas before completing her Doctorate of Optometry at the University of Houston College of Optometry, graduating in 2024. During her clinical training, Dr. Guzman was recognized for her excellence in patient care and received Clinical Excellence awards in Primary Care and Contact Lenses.

In her fourth year, Dr. Guzman completed three comprehensive clinical rotations in a variety of clinical settings. She provided eye care to underserved populations at a community clinic in Dallas, trained at an OD/MD practice specializing in cataract surgery and refractive corrective procedures, and completed a specialty rotation focused on pediatrics, neuro-ophthalmology, and specialty contact lenses. These experiences helped her develop a well-rounded, patient-centered approach to eye care.

Dr. Guzman was born and raised in Houston, Texas, and relocated to Alaska in January 2025 with her husband, Hunter Gates, and their Boston Terrier, Maggie. She is fluent in English and Spanish and is passionate about serving a diverse patient population. Dr. Guzman enjoys caring for patients of all ages and takes pride in providing comprehensive eye care for the entire family. She values building long-term relationships with her patients and truly appreciates the trust they place in her vision care.

Patients appreciate Dr. Guzman for her attentiveness, strong problem-solving skills, and compassionate bedside manner. She strives to listen carefully to her patients’ concerns and provide thoughtful, personalized care. Dr. Guzman is excited to serve her new community and looks forward to continuing to care for the wonderful people of Alaska.

​​​​​​​Outside of the clinic, Dr. Guzman enjoys exploring all that Alaska has to offer. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her dog and husband, hiking, playing frisbee golf, ice skating, and fishing on the Kenai.
